Riding on virtual rails.
The rubber-tired vehicles can supply construction sites without mechanical track guidance. This offers the following advantages in particular:
- Time saving – immediately ready for use
- 100% on track – space requirements are kept to a minimum
- Cost savings because no rail infrastructure is required
- Emission-free and energy-efficient thanks to electric drive
The challenge
In the linked vehicles as a train configuration it is especially important to prevent un-wanted slip of the drive wheels. This is challenging in the typical area of application because the ground is not only different overall in terms of tire grip but can also be very different between the vehicles. Optimally controlled slip of all linked vehicles prevents sideways swerving and ena-bles a smaller space reserve to the left and right of the train formation.

The solution
The realization was carried out by a synergetic combination of the central control of the train and the integrated PLC functionality of the VECTOPOWER inverters of the individual drives.
Lukas Gorbach, Head of Electical Engineering at VirtuRail:
“The technological functions of the VECTOPOWER inverters enabled us to perfectly limit the unwanted slippage of the drives. The VEConfig tool for any parameter adjustments was quickly learned and is easy to use. The analyzer as an integrated oscilloscope enabled us to quickly compare the measurement data. The technological implementation was carried out by the VirtuRail & ARADEX team”
