AC induction (asynchronous) motors for commercial vehicles

The name “asynchronous motor” comes from the fact that the rotor of asynchronous motors does not run synchronously but asynchronously to a rotating magnetic field of the stator. Depending on the application, asynchronous motors can be advantageous. See the comparison of asynchronous motors with permanent magnet motors for more information.

Particularly maintenance-friendly

Since the motors have no internal magnetic field without electric current, maintenance work such as replacing bearings after many hours of operation is possible even underground.

Easy integration

No disturbing torque and no generated voltage in towing operation – a great advantage for some applications.

Main advantages of the VM600M AC induction motors

  • In combination with VECTOPOWER inverters, high torques are possible from a standstill: Even at zero speed, the full torque is available (even for several seconds). We call this FTZS: FullTorqueZeroSpeed.
  • Optimized efficiency in the partial load range: through optimized control of the motor flow by means
  • of the HDFC function (HighDynamicFluxControl). HDFC also enables very dynamic changes of torques, as required, for example, for fast speed synchronization with switchable gearboxes.

  • Due to the magnet-free design, AC induction motors are particularly robust and easy to maintain
  • No drag losses in passive operation, which means that no induced voltage is generated
  • Optimized efficiency that can almost match the efficiency of good PM motors
